The FCA has published a statement explaining that its sustainability rules do not prevent investment in or finance for defence companies. It explains that the aims of its sustainable finance rules are to ensure information about investments claiming to be sustainable can be trusted and easily understood, and to improve the quality of sustainability-related information generally. It stresses that these requirements are unrelated to the position individual financial institutions may take on what type of businesses they want to support and their own attitude to and appetite for risk. So it is up to individual lenders and investors as to whether they want to provide funding to defence companies.
