The FOS has noted some themes that young drivers can face with car insurance:
- drivers have unknowingly invalidated their insurance by making undeclared modifications to their cars;
- FOS has received several complaints around telematics, including on mis-selling, and policies being cancelled when drivers leave their cars at home while at university with no tracking data being collected; and
- policies not covering young drivers where a false claim has been made about who is the main driver of the car.
