The FCA has led a second international ‘week of action’ targeting illegal finfluencers.
17 global regulators were involved in the programme, which included enforcement activity, consumer awareness campaigns and educational programmes for ‘responsible’ finfluencers. The event builds on a similar campaign in June 2025 which involved 8 other global regulators.
In the UK, the FCA:
- Secured a guilty plea from a reality TV actor relating to illegal financial promotions on social media, and commenced proceedings against a further two individuals for similar offenes;
- Sent 4 targeted warning letters to individuals suspected of engaging in unauthorised financial promotions;
- Issued 34 warning alerts against unauthorised firms or individuals;
- Made 120 account takedown requests to social media platforms hosting illegal finfluencer content – within these accounts, there were around 1200 adverts which had reached over 2.3m UK accounts, and 66% were from firms or individuals already on the FCA’s Warning List.
The FCA has again called for social media platforms to take on a more proactive role in preventing illegal financial promotions at source.
