The European Commission has launched a review of the Distance Marketing Directive (DMD) to assess whether it is relevant, effective, efficient, and in line with other EU legislation.
The review follows an announcement by the Commission in its 2019 work programme, that it would carry out an evaluation of the DMD in line with the better regulation principles. The Commission feels that it is necessary to evaluate the functioning of the DMD in the EU, including whether it is fit for purpose, due to the changes in distance marketing of financial services in light of the digitalisation and the commercial practices used online by providers.
The Commission invites interested parties to submit their feedback by 4 January 2019.
