ABI publishes strategy to improve diversity in insurance sector

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has published an ambitious Blueprint which sets out a multi-year strategy to improve diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) across the insurance industry. The Blueprint splits the employment journey into three stages:

  • Attract – the strategy aims to encourage people from all backgrounds into the sector and break down any barriers to employment. In particular, it highlights opportunities for school-leavers and apprentices;
  • Grow – the Blueprint outlines ways to help create environments that retain and expand a diverse pipeline of talented people, including secondments and mid-career apprenticeships and further support for significant life events; and
  • Advance – the plan includes metrics to support firms in gathering DEI information. The ABI has also committed to develop guidance so employees feel more comfortable sharing their data.

The ABI will review and refresh the Blueprint each year.
