The FCA has published data on access to cash coverage in H2 2025.
The key data findings include:
- For cash deposit access, 97.2% of the urban population lives within 1 mile, and 97.3% of the rural population lives within 3 miles, of free-to-use services;
- For cash withdrawal access, 99.6% of the urban population lives within 1 mile, and 98.1% of the rural population lives within 3 miles, of free-to-use services;
- Overall, the data shows a significant difference between urban and rural access – only 67.1% of the rural population are within 1 mile of free-to-use cash deposit access;
- Closure data is incomplete because many firms did not report temporary closures, but among designated bank and building society branches that did provide information, 8.3% were temporarily closed for at least one day; and
- 91.6% of designated bank and building society branches and 78.5% of larger non-designated personal current account provider branches were reported as having key accessibility features.
The FCA has previously reported access to cash data on a quarterly basis, but going forwards will report every six months. There is outstanding data from H2 2024 and H1 2025 yet to be published.
