FCA says customers have saved £1bn as a result of its improved rules on overdrafts which have reduced high fees for unarranged borrowing, have removed complex charging structures and required firms to help struggling customers. It has carried out an evaluation which has shown that. on average, each customer who had an overdraft or access to an unarranged one saved £17.40 in charges in 2021, and that 30% of consumers living in the most deprived areas saved £153m. It now thinks that, going forwards, consumers will save between £88m and £105m in charges each year.
