Home Office publishes fraud strategy

The Government has announced the creation of a new National Fraud Squad as part of the Fraud Strategy. The strategy includes:

  • new measures to ban cold calls on all financial products;
  • working with Ofcom to further clamp down on number spoofing;
  • banning devices used to reach thousands of people at ones;
  • a review of mass texting services;
  • a new system to replace Action Fraud;
  • allowing banks to delay payment processing to allow for suspicious payments to be investigated; and
  • an independent review of the challenges in investigating and prosecuting fraud.
