The King’s Speech – what it means for employment law

Today’s King’s Speech was notable as much for what it didn’t include as to what it did.

There was no mention of the long‑anticipated Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, suggesting we may now be waiting until next year for progress on that front.

In the meantime, the focus remains firmly on the gradual implementation of the Employment Rights Act 2025. We can expect a continued rollout of measures over the coming months, with further detail and secondary legislation to follow.

For employers and HR teams, this means keeping a close eye on developments and preparing for change at a steady pace rather than all at once.

We’ll continue to track the key implementation milestones as they emerge – watch this space.
